About Me
Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Ethan Foley, mass communications major at the University of South Carolina (UofSC). My chosen pathway is professional and civic engagement. Growing up in Massachusetts originally, something that I am always asked is why I came to South Carolina. Well, I knew that I didn’t want to go to a college too close to home, I wanted to get out and experience somewhere different. My older sister felt the same way and toured colleges up and down the east coast and fell in love with the UofSC. When it was my time to look for colleges, I did the same thing and ended up with the same result. I enrolled and never looked back. At first, it was scary being in an unfamiliar place where I didn’t know anybody. I didn’t know if I was going to find friends or have any fun at all. However, I got pretty lucky in that I met a couple people who introduced me to a whole group, and we’ve been friends ever since freshman year. In high school, I mostly skated by, but I found in college that that wasn’t good enough. I learned the hard way the value of hard work and studying, and I am a better person for it. I had a lot of ups and downs, and sometimes, I wasn’t sure I was going to get through to the end. But I stuck it out and managed to make it to the end, and I found what I truly want out of my professional career. While at the UofSC, I discovered that I truly want to be in sports media, whether it be photography, videography, or something else. I also discovered a love for photography, which came about when I was taking a photography course as a visual communications major. That love was reinforced when I was hired by the Coastal Plain League as a multimedia intern for a summer of baseball photography and social media. My ultimate goal is to be a team photographer for a major U.S. sports franchise. Another skill I learned while in college was how to build websites using HTML and CSS. One of favorite things that I did at the UofSC was join a gaming journalism club called the Gaming Collegian. During my time there, I became the executive producer and oversaw running the production of our weekly news roundup, as well as being on camera for it here and there. While part of the club, I also created and hosted a podcast. The best part was that we got to use the Greenhouse studio next to the school of journalism, which is such a cool building on campus. In the short term, I’m looking to graduate in December and start looking for full-time jobs. I plan to start looking at different sports teams and sports networks and throwing my hat in the ring. While I’m applying to other jobs, I plan to stay in Columbia and continue to work at my current job, which is sales associate at a Vans shoe store. Below you'll find an image and downloadable PDF of my resume, as well as a screenshot of one of the videos I was in at the Gaming Collegian.
